SHEAR PROPERTIES OF UNSATURATED SAND SUBJECTED TO CYCLIC SHEARING
Experimental studies on shear strength for unsaturated soils are processing considerably. There is, however, not enough to be appearance the unsaturated soil behaviour subjected to cyclic loading. Cyclic shear properties are required to predict changing in stabilization under seismic loading for embankment and cut-slope. This study concerned on the cyclic shear tests by using modified direct shear apparatus for unsaturated Hostun sand, which is widely distribution in France. With help of ceramic disk and the axial translate techniques; the soil suction can be controlled during the tests. The soil specimens are prepared with different suctions, including totally dry (i.e., high suction) and fully saturation (i.e., zero suction) in order to discover several differences. Variation of direct shear stresses and volume change for sand specimens were evidenced while soil specimens were loaded cyclic direct shearing.
