THE SALT DISASTER PROBLEM AND ITS MATHEMATICAL MODELING
This paper reports the investigation of the salt disaster in the North-east part of Thailand. The salt rock layers deposit 40 to 200m deep under the ground surface and then the ground water contains weak salt. The change of water circulation between the atmosphere and the ground due to deforesting and pumping the ground water for the saltpan causes the serous salt disaster problem in the area. Also, this paper mentions a possible technique to numerically simulate the phenomena which are observed in the area. Namely, a mathematical modelling of the unsaturated soil and water coupled problem considering advection and diffusion of the salty solution is presented.
