A CONSTITUTIVE MODEL OF UNSATURATED EXPANSIVE SOILS INCORPORATING THE EFFECT OF DEGREE OF SATURATION

A constitutive model for unsaturated expansive soils, incorporating the influence of degree of saturation on stress-strain behavior, is presented based on the concept of average soil skeleton stress. The LC and SI yield functions and hardening rule are also studied. Based on the physical processes and mechanism of the soil mechanics involved, the change relationship between the increase degree of saturation and the increase of volume change of the soil has been presented by the net mean stress and suction action. The constitutive model was validated by the experimental data reported in the literature.
