STUDY ON UNSTEADY SEEPAGE PROBLEM USING WATER-AIR TWO-PHASE FLOW MODEL
Unsaturated soils contain gas, water and solids. In order to calculate transient pore pressure in unsteady seepage problems, based on a water-air two-phase flow model, the governing equations of water and air flow can be described by mass-balance equations and extended Darcys law. An integral finite difference algorithm is used for numerically solving the governing equations. Nonlinearities are handled by Newton-Raphson iteration method. The unsteady seepage problem of bank slope induced by the increasing of the water level is simulated numerically. The transient pore water pressure, gas pressure, capillary pressure and the saturation of water and gas phase are obtained. The results indicate that when water level rises up, due to the infiltration of water flow, the pore gas pressure becomes higher obviously. So in refined solving unsteady seepage problem, the influence of pore gas pressure should be taken into account.
