SOLAR THERMAL ENERGY: POSSIBILITIES OF ITS USE IN LOW-INCOME AREAS OF METRO S(A)O PAULO, BRAZIL

摘要：

This article calls the attention to the increase of energy consumption world wide and the importance of renewable sources of energy to reduce environmental degradation and fight climate change. Solar thermal energy development for water-heating in low-income urban neighbourhoods could help attenuate these problems. In Brazil, thermal solar equipment could eventually substitute electric showers, especially in highly populated low-income areas in Metro S鉶 Paulo. Possibilities to overcome barriers to the implementation of thermal solar equipment are presented in the last section.
