LOCAL RENEWABLES MODEL COMMUNITIES NETWORK-AN INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVE BY ICLEI
Local governments (LGs) play a crucial role in implementing local energy policies, ensuring effective regulations, managing assets and providing a wide range of services that impact energy consumption. It is clear that they must also be key players in the transformation to sustainable energy in their communities. The “Local Renewables Model Communities Network (LR), an initiative of ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, to build an international network of communities committed to sustainable energy. The participating cities and towns from developing and developed countries act as role models, and encourage others. LR network communities share information on aspects of sustainable energy, experiences and expertise, from policies to technologies, from stakeholder involvement to implementation processes. LG,s around the globe have to become active in the field of sustainable energy. They also require support from various actors, including international cooperation and exchange to support their transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
