A NEW APPROACH OF THE COLLECTOR AREA IN SOLAR COLLECTOR TESTING STANDARDS

A new approach as regards the presentation of a solar collectors characteristic equation and efficiency curve is described. The proposed approach is based on the introduction of an effective collector area which is independent from the geometrical characteristics of the collector. Based on this new area, two alternative presentations are examined, whether the collector performance is presented in terms of energy output or efficiency. Through the proposed approach, the presentation of results is simplified to a great extent, based on quantities objectively measured, thus avoiding the possibility of results misinterpretation or misuse through subjective approaches.
