INFLUENCE OF INTRINSIC LIFETIME ON SILICON SOLAR CELL EFFICIENCIES
Intrinsic lifetime mappings are common tools for assessing the quality of silicon solar cells. However, it is difficult to directly relate lifetime to silicon solar cell efficiencies. In this paper we have monitored the effective lifetime in 2 various silicon solar cells by the photoconductivity decay (μPCD) measurements, and then we investigated the correlation between intrinsic lifetime and silicon solar cell efficiency by a one dimensional cell model (PC1D). Good general agreement between predicted and measured cell efficiencies has been achieved. In the experiment we also find that the effective lifetime increased after emitter diffusion because of phosphorus diffusion gettering.
