THE PRINCIPLE AND SIMULATION OF FACTS DEVICES AS REACTIVE COMPENSATORS IN WIND FARMS
Wind energy, a kind of distributed resource, depends on the nature. Nowadays, induction generators with constant speed and frequency are employed in wind farms. The wind farms bring negative impacts on the stability and power quality of grids to which they connect, especially when the scale of wind farms enlarges. These negative impacts obviously limit the extension of wind farms. The issue of reactive compensation and voltage stability is analyzed in this paper, and how FACTS devices solve the issue is presented. Using induction generation system as research object and MATLAB/Simulink as simulation tool, wind farm power system, all kinds of wind speed are modeled and the wind farm with SVC and STATCOM are simulated respectively. Their characteristics are also analyzed and compared. Some conclusions are drawn in the end.
