RENEWABLES 2050: A REPORT ABOUT THE POTENTIAL OF RENEWABLE ENERGY IN PENINSULAR SPAIN
In this paper detailed results are presented about the capacity and generation potential of the different renewable energy technologies in Spain, showing its space distribution as well as the relative weight between technologies that would be expected in the implementation of a renewable based energy mix. The results of this study are overwhelming, showing a very high potential of renewable energy technologies, amounting to 56.4 times the electricity demand and 10.4 times the total final energy demand (both demands projected for year 2050), and with a rather homogeneous space distribution. Spatial homogeneity, together with technology diversity, set the basis for the technical viability of energy mixes with very high renewable energy contribution (up to 100%).
