A Novel Hybrid Model Architecture in IP over WDM Networks
With the Internet Protocol (IP) being the dominant protocol for new optical network services, there is increasing pressure to optimize the network infrastructure and protocols for IP traffic. IP over WDM networks has been launched by the concept of wavelength routing. The principle is that high-speed data flows, which consist of many time-division multiplexed channels, are associated with specific optical wavelengths. Thus, they are routed through the optical network by means of their wavelengths. The emerging of generalized multi-protocol label switching (GMPLS) technology provides a means of realizing the Optical Internet. By analysis and study of optical Internet architecture, this paper presents a novel technology to construct the hybrid model architecture for IP over WDM systems. The new architecture allows the coexistence for different model networks, and simulation to the hybrid model is also studied. The results indicate the technology is feasible.
