A Performance Prediction Approach of J2EE Applications over PEPA Models

Model-based performance prediction of software system can bring time and cost saving. An approach to model and evaluation the performance of distributed J2EE applications in early stages of development process is presented. The remote invocation and container processing of J2EE system are modeled in Performance Evaluation Process Algebra (PEPA) formalism. The software architecture information then adds into PEPA model, so that performance and scalability can be predicted after service demand obtained using benchmarking. The method then demonstrated in an open example application, and empirical results that validate predictions reported.
