TESTING ON STRENGTH AND ANALYSIS ON FATIGUE OF CAST STEEL JOINTS IN SIGHTSEEING TOWER AT HANGZHOU BAY BRIDGE
There will be established a platform near and connecting to the middle of Hangzhou Bay Bridge, on which an entertainment building and a sightseeing tower will be constructed. The tower will undertake both the wind load and wave action, so the strength and fatigue are very important problems for design the tower. In this paper the model testing on strength of the joints in tower made of cast steel will be introduced, and the fatigue analysis of such joints is presented. Very complex forces including bending moment, shear forces and axial forces act in the joints. The loading devices are shown in this paper to model all the forces. Experiment shows that the design of the joints can ensure the strength safety of the tower. The cycling loads on the joints are introduced in this paper and the S-N curve for checking of fatigue is presented. Computation results show that the fatigue life can satisfy the design demand of this tower.
