STUDY ON PERFORMANCE BASED SEISMIC STRENGTHENING OF STRUCTURAL BUILDINGS

As an important principle of performance-based seismic design, cost-effectiveness criterion reflects the change of thoughts on the modern earthquake resistant design and its design target is reaching a rational balance between initial cost and the future loss. Combining the theory of performance-based seismic design with seismic strengthening, a reasonable description of reinforcing performance level is given and designers could neatly adjust their requirements for consolidating cost and failure damage by introducing addition coefficient α1 and α2. For determining the optimal reinforcement scheme, the optimization model based on cost-effectiveness criterion is established, and with reference to the present calculated results, the conclusion that strengthening strategy of base isolation is better than others is at last obtained.
