CRACK PATTERN OF STEEL REINFORCED HIGH STRENGTH AND HIGH PERFORMANCE FRAME JOINTS

Steel reinforced concrete (SRC) structure has gained popularity over traditional types of building structures, and various innovations have been developed in recent years.Steel reinforced high strength and high performance concrete (SRHSHPC) is the application of high strength and high performance concrete (HSHPC) to SRC structure, which takes the full advantage of HSHPC and SRC structures. Joints between beams and columns are potentially the most critical and possibly the least understood parts of the structural frame. Because joint is the most important part that transfer the forces between beams and columns in the frame, it is always in complex stress state that caused by the interaction of bending, shear, and axial loads. Based on cyclic loading tests carried out on five half-scale interior joints, a typical crack pattern is provided which can well reflect mechanical character and damage process of SRHSHPC frame joints. The result indicates that failure process of SRHSHPC frame joints is similar to ordinary SRC frame joints, but this kind of frame joint possesses high strength, high endurance and good seismic performance. Joint under lower axial compression ratio and lower concrete strength possess better hysteretic energy performance.
