CABLE FORCE MONITORING OF A CABLE PRE-STRESSED GYMNASIUM DOME BASED ON EM PRINCIPLE

In this paper the EM principle of cable force monitoring is introduced. The corresponding monitoring devices are designed. Tests in laboratory are presented for different groups of cables with different diameters, which show that the relationships between the output voltage and the cable force behave very good stability. A model is fabricated for testing of load bearing capacity of the HanHui University Gymnasium with cable pre-stressed dome roof. 27 EM windings are prepared and the forces of 27 tension cables in the model during testing are measured by both EM monitoring device and strain gauges. Testing results show that the EM principle and devices can have very good accuracy for measureing and monitoring of cable forces. It can be proved that the cable structure has developed for long time. Theory about analysis and calculation for this kind of structures had been developed to a very advanced level. However, the theory and methods of checking and measuring the tension of cable should have been developed. In this paper, research based on Elasto-magnetic theory of measurement of cables tension is illustrated and a new method to measure cables tension is introduced. The research expressed that this method has high stability and precision.
