EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE LATERAL CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT OF COUPLED SHEAR WALL SYSTEM THROUGH THE WALL RETROFITTED BY CARBON PLATE

Most residential apartment buildings in Korea have been built with shear wall type structural systems, which consist of shear walls and slabs as vertical and horizontal members, respectively. However, many structural problems have been found in lintel beam which was connected shear walls in aged buildings. Lintel beam is the most important structural member in shear wall type apartment building especially against lateral loads. The lateral capacity of coupled shear wall system depends mostly on lintel beams. In this study, flexural capacity test of coupled shear walls retrofitted by carbon plate was performed under lateral load. All specimens of coupled shear walls with openings were manufactured by 1/5 scale. Test results including maximum force,ductility level and energy dissipation area of coupled shear walls were compared with those of non-retrofit specimens.
