EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON LOAD-CARRYING CAPACITIES OF COMPOSITE WALL SYSTEM WITH HIGH-STRENGTH COLD-FORMED THIN-WALLED STRUCTURES SUBJECTED TO COMPRESSION AND BENDING LOAD

In this paper, a full-scale experimental study on load-carrying capacities of the composite wall system with high-strength cold-formed thin-walled structures subjected to compression and bending load was conducted to investigate the local and overall buckling behavior of the studs in these walls using a total of six full-scale walls tests. Three types of wall were tested, including two walls with corrugated plate on one side, two walls with corrugated plate on both sides and two walls with corrugated plate and plasterboard on each side. The measured stud failure load agrees well with the theoretical results based on Chinese Technical code of cold-formed thin-wall steel structures GB50018-2002 as if the length factor k of the stud is taken as 0.6. Based on the test results, a design method of the load-carrying capacities of the composite wall system subjected to compression and bending load was presented.
