IMPROVEMENT IN LATERAL RESISTANCE CAPACITY OF COUPLED SHEAR WALL SYSTEM BY CARBON PLATE RETROFIT OF LINK BEAMS
Most of residential apartment buildings in Korea typically consist of shear walls and slabs. Therefore, the linear type structures would have disadvantage in resisting against lateral loads applying along with the layered direction of a wall. Also, uncoupled shear walls connected only through a lintel beam and slab are not in the safe condition. The purpose of this study is to develop an effective retrofitting method for the shear wall type structural system and to increase a seismic capacity using carbon plate. The main concept of the retrofit method introduced in this paper is to retrofit the link beam to obtain the enhanced composite action of a coupled shear wall. Experiment and analysis of the coupled shear wall were performed and the results were compared. 1/5 scale coupled shear walls with openings in which lintel beams were retrofitted by carbon plates were manufactured and tested. The maximum displacement, force, ductility, energy dissipation were obtained.
