THE RESEARCH ON PROPERTIES UNDER AXIAL LOAD AND SEISMIC RESISTANCE PERFORMANCE OF ROUND CORNER STEEL BOX-SECTION PIER

Recently years the steel box-section pier is applied in the design and construction of citys high-speed road, but many steel box-section piers took a brittle destruction around the corner during the Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake in 1995. Therefore, in order to avoiding the brittle destruction around the corner of the steel box-section pier during great earthquake, we change the normal wedge-edge corner piers (without round corner) into round corner box-section piers, and made an attempt to study the axis-compress properties and seismic resistance performance of round corner steel box-section pier on the condition of considering the initial imperfection or not, and find out how much can the initial imperfection affects round corner steel box-section pier in deferent width-thickness ratio, curvature ratio and aspect ratio. When the width-thickness ratio parameter R is comparatively small, only when curvature ratio r/b=0.1, properties of the round corner steel box-section pier under axial loadings is influenced regularly by the initial imperfection. Otherwise,when curvature ratio r/b=0.2, seismic resistance performance of round corner steel box-section pier isnt affected by the initial imperfection. On the other hand, when the width-thickness ratio parameter R is big, to any curvature ratio, the influence of the initial imperfection is obvious and lesser with the aspect ratio becomes bigger. When curvature ratio is big, seismic resistance performance of round corner steel box-section pier is affected by the initial imperfection.
