Issues on grid convergence
Two factors that affect grid convergence were investigated, critical grid spacing and distribution characteristics of grid. A formula involved order and Reynolds number was presented to judge whether the contribution of viscosity term can be reckoned in. It was deduced from the formula that used to estimate the critical grid spacing when uniform grid is adopted. Uniformity, length-to-width ratio and orthogonality were investigated to analyze the impact of distribution characteristics for non-uniform grid. Referring to Roaches GCI (Grid Convergence Index), an approach for high dimension and mix-order problems is employed to measure the grid convergence based on error. A case of 2-D flows around square cylinder was used to verify above issues.
