Simulation of Mold Filling under Counter Gravity for 356 Alloy and 356/SiCp composite
Dynamic characteristics of mold filling under counter gravity for particulate reinforced aluminum matrix composites and the matrix alloy are compared and analyzed in this paper. It is pointed out that there exists much difference in fluidity and flow morphology between the composites and the matrix alloy due to the difference in viscosity and equivalent solidification latent. The mold filling under counter gravity can be described by the second order nonlinear equation characterized by damping oscillations. Composite flows steadier than the matrix alloy during mold filling, and the temperature field resulting from mold filling is more beneficial to directional solidification.
