Hot Tearing Prediction for Magnesium Alloy Castings
A hot tearing indicator is proposed for the computer simulation of metal casting. The computation of the hot tearing is based on accurate prediction of the solidification path and proper calculation of the thermo-physical and mechanical properties of the alloys. A Gurson type of constitutive model, which considers the nucleation and evolution of the voids in the solid, is adopted in the computation of the hot tearing indicator. The computational predictions of the hot tearing are validated by experimental measurements.
