Forecast of discharge voltage for electromagnetic tube forming based on FEM analysis
Forecast of discharge process parameters is one of the key problems needed to solve urgently for the applications of electromagnetic forming (EMF) technology. In this work, the forecast of discharge voltage during electromagnetic forming of AA 3003 tube has been investigated through combination of the sequential coupling numerical simulation of EMF process and the optimization analysis of tube deformation. The optimum design of EMF process by means of tube deformation is discussed. The less than 5.9% relative error between the experimental value and the forecast one indicates that the discharge voltage forecast based on the FEM is feasible. This forecast method will be a favorable way for the optimum design of electromagnetic sheet metal forming and tube forming with die.
