Role of Pushing Tool in NC Bending of Tubes with Large Size Factors
The use of pushing tool, a new forming tool exerting the axial pushing force on the tube end, will develop the NC bending of tubes with large size factors. In this paper, the 3D elastic-plastic FE models for studying NC bending process are established considering pushing tool action. In the models, the appropriate matching of the tooling, friction and velocity parameters is satisfied to achieve the positive role of pushing tool in forming process. The effects of pushing tool on the tube forming features are revealed: (1)With the pushing tool action, the wrinkling possibility of tubes will be larger; the axial wall thickening zone will be larger, and the maximum wall thickening ratio larger. The larger the size factors, the more remarkable the effects of the pushing tool on the above features. (2)With the pushing tool action, the maximum wall thinning ratio will be smaller; the maximum ovality smaller. The larger the size factors, the less remarkable the effects of the pushing tool on the above features.
