Hot Forgeability and Die-forging Forming of Semi-continuous Casting AZ70 Magnesium Alloy
By carrying out the experiments of semi-continuous casting AZ70 Mg-alloy at different temperatures and various strain rates, such as tensile testing on Sintech20 tester and compressive testing on Gleeble1500D simulator, the plastic diagrams, the curves of deformation resistance and the relationship curves between deformation degree and mean grain sizes were determined respectively. And the possible hot forging process parameters were subsequently confirmed. Based on the above results and the present forging equipments and dies, conventional forging experiments for a projectile head shell directly utilizing semi-continuous casting AZ70 billet were performed on an oil hydraulic press with the capacity of 315t. The forged head shell possesses desired defect-free microstructure and mechanical properties with 30% weight saving by comparison with Al-alloy one.
