Influence of second thermocycling on the autocatalytic nucleation of acicular ferrite in steel welds
Autocatalytic nucleation of acicular ferrite in steel welds has been studied using double-side submerged arc welding and laboratory simulations of controlled thermal processing on a Gleeble-1500 hot simulator. The effects of second thermocycling on the acicular ferrite microstructure and nonmetallic inclusions in X70 grade pipe line steel welds were investigated. It is shown that the size of acicular ferrite plate increases and the autocatalytic nucleation of acicular ferrite is improved by the increase in the standing time between 650 and 450℃ during second thermocycling. The mechanism of autocatalytic nucleation of acicular ferrite has been analyzed from the factors of stress energy and carbon distribution.
