Efficiency of Wind Erosion Control Measures at the Dk1562 Section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway

The new Geerm-Lhasa (Ge-La) segment of Qinghai-Tibet Railway is playing an increasingly important role in communication with the outside world and economic development of the southwest region of China. Undeniably, some part of the new line has suffered from the severe wind erosion prevalent along a wide range of the Railway. Wind erosion control engineering is closely related to railway security and local ecosystem. Based on our experimental data the railway project has some positive effects on preventing wind erosion by means of comprehensive control measures such as the upright-concrete sand fence, stone checkerboard barrier and gravel mulch. We discuss the comprehensive control efficiency for a better use of various kinds of measures to minimize hazards caused by wind erosion.
