Decisions for Sustainable Use of Groundwater Resources in the Ecological Area Located between Beijing and Inner Mongolia of China
Desertification control is an important strategy for the development of western China. In order to recover the degenerated grassland in the sandy area, the policy of rotational grazing, deferred grazing, forbidden grazing and rearing livestock in pen has been carried out in the grasslands. Planting forage in the areas where groundwater resources are available plays an important role in this policy. In this study, a nonlinear multi-objective groundwater management model was developed by integrating water requirements of forage and pumping volume for irrigation with response matrix of observation wells. The pumping decisions for sustainable utilization of groundwater resources and control of desertification caused by human activities can be worked out by multi-objective genetic algorithm groundwater management modeling.
