Research Progress in Fire Retardant Polystyrene Foam
Polystyrene foam (PS foam) is a flammable material which would emit dense,black, toxic smoke when it finally burns. So the range of its application as insulation material in the field of building and architecture is limited. The key to settle this problem is to endow PS foam with some flame retardant property. This paper reported the progress both at home and abroad of some flame retardants such as brominated flame retardants with synergistic agents, graphite, intumescent flame retardant coating used in PS foam, compared the characteristics of various flame retardant systems and gave some advice on the research in the future.
