A new three phases high voltage monolithic gate driver for modern air conditioning application

The continuous drive for improvement in efficiency of air conditioning systems is leading to a widespread adoption of inverter controlled permanent magnet motors for compressor and fan speed control. Consumer products have always been designed with severe cost constraints however appliance safety is the one overriding issue in all design consideration. This new gate drive IC is a highly integrated solution that addresses the safety requirements for the modern air conditioning systems. The device has been designed using High Voltage Bi-Cmos technology. The IC includes a full three phases gate driver fully operational up to 600V plus an independent low side driver dedicated respectively to the motor compressor drive and the PFC power switch drive. Several protection functions have been integrated to improve system performance and safety. Fault diagnostic is provided through a single 3.3 V CMOS I/O pin by a simple communication protocol. The digital section is referred to a signal ground separated by the power ground to further improve noise immunity.
