EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE MINI-FOUR-LOBED COMBUSTOR

Mini-combustor is a key part of the mini-engine. In the past the lobed exhauster/ejector was used to many important fields of industry due to its high mixing efficiency between the primary and the secondary fluid flows. In this paper the mini-lobed nozzle in the dimension of millimeter was firstly used as a combustor nozzle for the purpose of full use of its high mixing efficiency. The experimental setup was established to measure and compare the performance between a four-lobed nozzle combustor and a same dimensional ordinary cylindrical nozzle combustor. The experimental results show that the four-lobed nozzle combustor has a higher burning temperature,a higher burning stability and a higher mixture efficiency between the primary flow and the secondary flow than the cylindrical nozzle combustor because of the initial streamwise vortices formed in the lobed nozzle combustor. It can also be concluded that there are seldom or no soot formed in the four-lobed nozzle combustor in combustion.
