NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF BLADE COATING EROSION BY SPH METHOD

Turbine and compressor blades operating in a particulate flow environment experience erosion and performance deterioration. This paper investigates particle erosion of blade coatings by SPH method (Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics) combined with FE (Finite Element) method. Firstly, the velocity field of particulate flow is obtained by commercial fluid software. Secondly, erosion resistance performance of coating is obtained by simulation of multiple solid particles impacts. Since simulation of damage evolution of the whole blade is almost impossible with present computer resources. The concept Effective Erosion Region is proposed based on simulation of single solid particle impact. Then, the blade is divided into many Effective Erosion Regions and erosion performances of EERs are obtained through numerical simulation of multiple solid impacts. So damage evolution of whole blade can be obtained by combining erosion performances of all EERs. The results indicate that damage distribution of blade which is basically coincident with the situation of actual blade in service.
