EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF ORIFICE DEPTHS EFFECTS ON SYNTHETIC JET WITH PIV

In order to investigate the effects of depth on the performance of piston-driven synthetic jet, experimental research of three different orifice depths: h=1.5mm, h=2mm and h=3.5mm is presented in the paper by means of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). During one oscillation cycle 12 images in sequence are captured by PIV system supplemented by phase-locked technique, and ensemble-averaged 36 images are obtained for one condition. In the current experiment, the time-averaged cross-stream velocity profiles of synthetic jet show the similarity to the 2D conventional jet, which fit well with the equation V/Vcl=EXP-A*(Y/Y0.5)2. Detailed study shows the peak values of mass flux, momentum flux and centerline velocity of synthetic jet increase in proportion to the depth of orifice.
