PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE LUBRICATION SYSTEM OF THE TURBOFAN AERO-ENGINE

As we know, the lubrication system of engines is one of indispensable subsystems which ensure they work reliably for long time. To study its performance and even more, it must be analyzed thoroughly. So the paper examined the performance of the lubrication system of a certain existing turbo-fan engine theoretically and experimentally, and considered how to improve it to suit the improved enginefixed in unpiloted aerial aero-craft (UAV) at a high altitude and long endurance (HALE).In the paper, firstly, the work process of the lubrication of the engine is described in detail. Then the network analysis of oil flow and air flow is given. And, mathematical models of the oil flow rate and pressure distribution are presented.Furthermore, a method combined theoretical calculation with experimental calculation is introduced and utilized.Based on above-mentioned models, the calculation is carried out. The results show when the altitude is higher than the design altitude of the existing engine 12km, the oil pumps including a oil supply and three scavenge oil pumps can not work normally, due to the more and more low atmosphere pressure in cavities and the oil tank as the altitude increases and the higher shaft revolutionary of them with a stronger centrifugal effect to cause a higher anti-press. Otherwise, the common problems encountered in the analysis of the lubrication system are discussed, as well as ways to deal with them.According to above the calculation and analysis, recommendations are made regarding to increase the pressure in each cavity and to decease the shaft revolutionary of the oil pumps. Then another computation has been completed to proofread the modified lubrication system. The new results indicates that the improved scheme is available with a satisfactory performance and retaining most of existing components, and saving much time and expenses.
