Cutting Force Model of Glass Ceramics Based on Response Surface Methodology
Fluorophlogopite glass ceramics was selected as experimental materials. Cutting speed, depth of cut and feed were selected as machining parameters of turning operations. Cutting forces, including axial force, radial force, and main cutting force, were measured with kistler piezoelectric dynamometer. Cutting force models were solved based on central composite design and response surface methodology. Main influencing factor on cutting forces was obtained through cutting force models and correlation analysis. Moreover, differences of cutting forces between glass ceramics and metal materials were found. Experimental results suggested that the most cutting force among three cutting forces was radial force. Cutting speed was the most dominant effect on turning operations of glass ceramics.
