Fenton integrated processes for landfill leachate treatment
Fenton reagent is very effective in the removal of many hazardous organic pollutants from water. The main advantage is the complete destruction of contaminants to harmless compounds, e. g. CO2, water and inorganic salts. The Fenton reaction causes the dissociation of the oxidant and the formation of highly reactive hydroxyl radicals that attack and destroy the organic pollutants without selectivity. But to improve the utilization efficiency of H2O2 and lower the cost for wastewater treatment, the integrated processes play an important role. The current research status of Fenton integrated processes for landfill leachate purification was reviewed and development trend was prospected. It was pointed out that Fenton and Fenton-like reactions simultaneously took place in the Fenton integrated processes for purification of landfill leachate.
