Microwave induced discoloration of methyl orange solution with fly ash
Fly ash is an important solid waste in municipal engineering. In China, the amount of fly ash had reached 1.6 × 108 t by the end of 2000. At present, only about 30% fly ash is used in the field of construction and stuff. Fly ash contains porous inorganic materials and metal components. The transitional metal in fly ash and hydrogen peroxide can form Fenton-like reagent to produce hydroxyl radical to mineralize the organic. The microwavefly ash process was investigated to decolorize the methyl orange solution, which contained azo structure. Under the microwave field, discoloration ratio reaches 99%.
