DSMC Calculation of Supersonic Expansion from a Hexagram-Shaped Orifice
A new intermolecular collision scheme, which enable to use larger cells than the local mean free path is developed in the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) calculation. The scheme is applied to calculate a three-dimensional flow-field of the supersonic free jet from an orifice with convex and concave corners. The results show that the simulation can reproduce the behavior of a jet issuing from a hexagram orifice, which has been shown experimentally; the plume develops faster from the concave corners of the orifice than those from the convex corners.
