Sensitivity Function Shaping by Nonlinear Least-Squares Optimization for Disturbance Rejection on Hard Disk Drives
As the track density of a hard disk drive (HDD)increases, so must its tracking accuracy. Disturbance rejection is vital to minimize positioning error between the disk head and disk track during the track-following process. From the power spectrum of the nonrepeatable runout (NRRO) calculated from the position error signals (PES), disturbances at dominant frequencies can be identified. By shaping the sensitivity function of the system, the effects of these disturbances can be minimized. The nonlinear least-squares optimization (NLSO) method is applied to design a feedback controller for a micro-actuator such that the overall sensitivity function fulfills desired specifications in order to reject disturbances at specific frequencies.Simulation results show the effectiveness of this method.
