Student-Centered Instruction in the Introductory Object-Oriented Programming Course for Non-Majors
In recent years, a shift from traditional teachercentered instruction to student-centered is emerging to improve the effectiveness of teaching. The mission of student-centered instruction focuses on the needs and interests of the students.This paper presents authors experiences in promoting studentcenteredinstructionintheintroductoryobject-oriented programming course (based on Java) for non-majors at Donghua University.First,ashortoverviewofstudent-centered instruction concepts is given. Then, issues discussed include wellorganized lessons, classroom activities, modern technologies,assessment techniques, etc. Finally, the potential barriers that could inhibit learning from student are described.
