Fast Simplification Algorithm for 3D Mesh Based on Edge Collapse
we present a fast and effective triangular mesh simplification algorithm, which is based on the characteristics of human vision system. To compute the cost of edge collapse, our algorithm takes the length of an edge and the dihedral angle of its adjacent triangle, it also uses volume preservation to determine the position of a new vertex. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm on various models.
