Some considerations of university education of materials science and engineering in DUT(Dalian University of Technology)
This paper takes the major of Materials Science and Engineering as an example, to demonstrate its development and consideration in Chinese university education. In the case of Materials Science and Engineering, there are six majors which has been developed from about 20 majors at 1998, which has brought a great change to the courses and syllabus in Chinese universities. In our school, we develop a system in undergraduate education after several years of practice. The courses are divided into three types: fundamental courses, major fundamental courses and major direction course. The setup of major direction depends on the preponderant research areas. Besides the profound fundamental knowledge in Materials Science and Engineering, the students also are provided with knowledge and skills in special knowledge and training.
