Experiments to study double hypernuclei with hybrid-emulsion method at KEK and J-PARC
Since the sequential weak decay of a double hypernucleus was detected in the E176 experiment at KEK, we have made that statistics nearly ten times larger than past experiments. By the NAGARA event, the KEK-E373 experiment verified that the Λ-Λ interaction would be weakly attractive. An event with ∑-N decay was also detected among six hundreds reactions of the provable (E)- hyperon capture at rest in nuclear emulsion. We have planned an experiment which would provide 104 (E)-stopping events in the emulsion and it has been approved as the E07 experiment at J-PARC. In the experiment, it will be possible to discuss the Λ-Λ interaction for at least several nuclear species among ~102 double hypernuclei. We will also measure X-ray from cascade process of (E) atom for the first time. Therefore, we will employ a newly-developed hybrid-emulsion method with nuclear emulsion, Double-sided Silicon Strip Detector (DSSD) and X- and γ-ray detector using Ge semiconductor (Hyperball-J).
