Linguistic and Cultural Awareness in the Classroom
If language is the text, culture is the context within which language lives; culture to language is, in other words, as water to plants. But what is considered as the context or linguistic environment remains, especially that for classroom situation, always a question to be answered. What this paper is trying to deal with is therefore to establish a kind of linguistic context, which is hypothesized as being verbal and non-verbal, cultural and non-cultural as well as linguistic and non-linguistic for language teaching-and-learning to be carried out both theoretically and practically inside the classroom and, if necessary, for teachers,to check up with.
