A New Program Code Compression Algorithm For Embedded Microprocessor
Memory system utilization efficiency can be increased by code compression technology, which will result in performance promotion of microprocessor systems, especially for embedded systems. But compression techniques nowadays can hardly achieve both high compression ratio and low hardware complexity. A new code compression method is proposed in this paper. Experiment results indicate that the code sizes of ARM and OR1200 microprocessor can be efficiently reduced by 32.2% and 36.9% individually with this compression algorithm. A hardware decompressing prototype of our algorithm is also presented, revealing its advantage in low hardware complexity and ultra high speed decompression.
