Software Loading and Upgrading System for Embedded Platforms
The paper presents a design and realization of the software loading and upgrading system for embedded platforms. Such modules are well known for large operating systems. However, in the case of embedded computers, due to their hardware varieties, their proper design still poses an open problem. This paper tries to answer some of these questions by providing appropriate definitions of software components as well as guides for their practical realizations. The issue of software integrity and maintenance is discussed as well. Although defined in general terms, the presented solution can be easily ported to a particular architecture. An implementation of the presented concepts was also tested in a real embedded system. Therefore the presented in this paper solutions can be of much help for many embedded system designers.
