Throughput Maximization of Adaptive MQAM and the Effects of Inaccurate Feedback Channel Estimation
Based on the analysis of system throughput with fixed modulation for packet transmission in Rayleigh fading environment, optimal channel signal to noise ratio (SNR) switching thresholds for adaptive modulation with maximized throughput are obtained by assuming ideal feedback channel estimation. Significant throughput improvement is achieved and the packet size is shown to have strong effect on throughput performance. Next, based on the Gaussian distributed and uniformly distributed models of channel estimation error, throughput performance of adaptive MQAM with inaccurate feedback channel estimation is investigated. Results obtained show that throughput of the adaptive system is quite sensitive to channel estimation error when the metric of estimation error is larger than 3 dB.
