STUDY OF THE COOL-DOWN PROCESS OF A CRYOGENIC VALVE IN LIQUID NITROGEN

In order to guide producing practice, numerical simulation of dynamic temperature profile is conducted on a cryogenic valve emerged in liquid nitrogen, which is a typical working status for its cryogenic test. Three calculation models of different statuses, based on revised experiential equations for boiling heat transfer, have been set up. Systematic simulations have been carried out to predict cool-down process of cryogenic valves, focusing on the cool-down time and dynamic temperature profile. Based on the simulation results, an insulation layer is proposed to be attached to the valve stem, avoiding the occurrence of freezing at the top of packing gland during cryogenic test.
