REVIEW OF FLOW BOILING HEAT TRANSFER OF CO2 AND LUBRICANT OIL MIXTURE

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is emerging as one of the most promising environmentally friendly and energy efficient refrigerants. This paper reviews the current experimental studies on the flow boiling heat transfer of CO2 and lubricant oil mixture, effect of oil concentration, vapour quality, heat and mass fluxes and saturation temperature. The empirical correlations for flow boiling heat transfer coefficients of refrigerant and lubricant oil mixtures are summarized and compared with the experimental data. Predictions from none of the empirical correlations agree well with the experimental data, and hence further research is needed to develop appropriate correlations for the flow boiling heat transfer of CO2-oil mixture.
